SOUTH DAKOTA RETAILERS ASSOCIATION NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release: June 4, 2019 Contact: Shuree Mortenson, 605.224.5050 smortenson@sdra.og SOUTH DAKOTA RETAILERS AND SHERIFFS PARTNER TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL DONUT DAY! A sweet partnership began today as the South Dakota Retailers Association joined forces with the South Dakota Sheriffs Association to give National Donut Day (Friday, June 7) the recognition it deserves! Together nearly 400 donut-distributing retailers partnered with 66 of South Dakota’s finest to celebrate this tasty treat. “Great food brings communities together, and bakeries and donut shops are always local favorites,” said SDRA Exec. Dir. Nathan Sanderson. “Our Main Street businesses appreciate the service of our law enforcement officers and are excited to partner with them to recognize an area of mutual interest!” Business owners and law enforcement alike are fixtures in their local towns and strive to make a difference within their communities. Partnering to celebrate this fun cause is yet another thing both groups are excited to get behind. In their travels across South Dakota, Sanderson and Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom have identified several of their most memorable donuts. “My Grandma Zona Sanderson makes a great homemade cake donut,” Sanderson said. “The glazed donuts at The Donut Shop in Pierre are outstanding. And the long johns at the Flandreau Bakery. And I can’t travel west without stopping for a maple donut at Wall Drug.” Sheriff Thom doesn’t need to stray too far for his favorite breakfast bite. “When I need to grab a couple of dozen tasty treats, I always pull into Jerry’s Cakes & Donuts in Rapid City. I like supporting a home-town business and they have so many unique creations including the bacon donut.” The South Dakota Retailers Association wants to hear about YOUR favorite donut stop! Visit the South Dakota Retailers Association Facebook page this Friday to share your story for a chance to win an SDRA coffee mug, the donut’s true partner-in-crime. The South Dakota Retailers Association (SDRA) represents nearly 4,000 members in more than 160 business categories. Founded in 1897, it is one of the country’s oldest and largest retail trade associations. - 30 -
