It's Official: Video Lottery Establishment Policy

The South Dakota Lottery Commission has finalized its Video Lottery Establishment policy. For businesses operating “separate establishments” under one roof, you’ll want to take note. State enforcement of this new policy is expected to increase.

Here’s the new policy highlights.

• Alcohol License: Each establishment must be licensed as bar or lounge with an on-sale liquor license.
• Distinct Separation: Each establishment must have its own exit and entrance.
• Point of Sale: Establishments must each have their own business name and address.
• Bar and Refrigerator: Each establishment must have a point-of-sale system and alcohol service.
• Signs: Age restriction and “no alcohol beyond this point” signs must be posted at each establishment.
• Monitoring: Establishment staff must monitor machines in person or by mirrors or cameras.
